Theme:The Occult
From Literepetition
Literepetition relies heavily on supernatural elements, both to explain the authorial theme and to drive the overarching metaplot that provides momentum for the characters outside of their personal interactions. The occult reasoning for the game premise has not been entirely revealed to its players yet, and so will therefore neither be revealed here, except in general or theoretical terms.
The area is already noted for the healing qualities of its water, the clarity of its air and the pristine beauty of its seasons. It is a region steeped in natural blessings, and it is not difficult to believe it is also gifted with spiritual as well as earthly fertility. The Seneca from whom the original settlers appropriated land and space to live considered the valley in which Bartleby nestles a holy place, sacred to them for its beauty. The ample woodland that still abounds between farmsteads and around the nearby lakes are the setting for myriad ghost stories and folk tales of the inexplicable; there are rumours of a nearby native burial ground that has spawned the usual lore. Certainly Bartleby itself seems to possess more than its fair share of purported hauntings. Something in the area itself seems quietly sentient, aware. It's fertile ground.
It's important to note that some of the reincarnations have realized that they are, in fact, reincarnations, but that isn't necessarily true for all of the reincarnations, especially any new ones.
Beyond the scope of the metaplot, supernatural and occult elements abound. There are rumoured hauntings on campus, in Bartleby and in the surrounding area.
