The NPC creation rules encompass four types of NPC. The first is a personal NPC. This type of NPC includes a character's family, their friends back home, their non-player roommate, or the annoying guy who works at Ink Noir who tries to get them to go out on a date. These are NPCs that pretty much exist just for them and most likely won't be played or utilized by anyone else. General NPCs are those that can be used by and might be useful to just about any player. This includes the library monitor that refuses to be helpful, the funny old wino who hangs around in the square, or Sam the janitor at the food court. They offer color and personality to the campus and its denizens but little else. The third variety are staff approved NPCs. These are NPCs that players can use in their plots, but must be approved by a staffer prior to creation and prior to each use. These NPCs include professors, low level administration, and other NPCs that offer something in terms of benefits, risk, or resources to the players. The final variety are staff controlled NPCs. These are NPCs that staff both creates and controls such as high level administration, metaplot related NPCs, town officials, and others. These NPCs will never be played by a player unless specifically at staff request.

The following is a list of rules for the creation and use of all four types of NPC.

Contents

[edit] Personal NPC

Personal NPCs are created and played by the players for their own use. The following is a detailed listing of the rules and procedures for creation and play.

[edit] Creation

  • Not every person a PC interacts with is required to be detailed as an NPC. Please keep detailed NPCs for those people in your character's life that are a regular or important part of it.
  • Please do not use viable PC played bys for NPCs.
  • Not every NPC needs its own wiki page. Most personal NPCs are detailed with no problems on a subsection of a character page. Reserve full articles for those NPCs that will see regular in scene play.
  • Personal NPCs are not meant for important resources. Even if they are a family member, NPCs that offer substantial reward to your character require Moderator approval as they are, by definition, actually staff approved NPCs.
  • No special application process is required for personal NPCs. Create them and have fun.

[edit] Use

  • Personal NPCs are for the exclusive use of their creator and staff.
  • Personal NPCs may be played or used by another player with their creator's approval.
  • Personal NPCs should never be used to acquire significant rewards/penalties without moderator input.

[edit] General NPC

General NPCs are created and played by staff and players alike for everyone's use. The following is a detailed listing of the rules and procedures for creation and play.

[edit] Creation

  • Anyone can create general NPCs without staff intercession.
  • Like Personal NPCs they should not use viable PC played bys.
  • Not all general NPCs require a wiki page. For example, an NPC server at Ink Noir can be detailed on that location's page.
  • General NPCs should never be supernatural in nature. They should be uncomplicated and generally accessible.

[edit] Use

  • The person who created a general NPC has no greater claim over it than any other player.
  • Anyone can play a general NPC at any time.
  • General NPCs should never be used to acquire or distribute significant rewards/penalties, ever.

[edit] Staff Approved NPC

Staff Approved NPCs are created by players and staff, but must be approved by staff before they are okay to use. Even after general approval, the use of staff approved NPCs must be approved by staff each time they are used. The following is a detailed listing of the rules and procedures for creation and play.

[edit] Creation

  • Staff approved NPCs should not be created as a joke or simply for humor value. These NPCs should have a solid purpose and should not be created on a whim.
  • Any NPC that might have significant influence or play an important role in the gamewide world requires staff approval.
  • All staff approved NPCs require a wiki article using the appropriate NPC template.
  • Do not create a wiki page for a staff approved NPC until they are approved.
  • An application (using this form) must be submitted to the email address mods@literepetition.net. Allow at least 48 hours for staff contact after submission.
  • Staff reserves the right to deny any application for an NPC or require modification to the app prior to approval.

[edit] Use

  • Staff approved NPCs should only be used for plot purposes. They should not be used in casual RP.
  • This class of NPC can be used for personal plots, but require staff approval prior to that use.
  • To acquire approval for the use of a staff approved NPC, email the following form to the email address mods@literepetition.net.

[edit] Staff Controlled NPC

Staff controlled NPCs are created by staff for the exclusive use of staff. The following is a detailed listing of the rules and procedures for creation and play.

[edit] Creation

  • Only staff can create a staff controlled NPC.
  • Players can suggest NPCs that might be needed by sending an email to mods@literepetition.net.

[edit] Use

  • Only staff can use a staff controlled NPC. Do not ask to use them in a player run plot, permission will be denied unless a staffer will be playing the NPC throughout the plot. Players can use the same form used for use of staff approved NPCs for this purpose.
