System:Application Guidelines

[edit] Before You Apply
- Wiki
- Make sure the author and played by you want are both available. Check the wanted authors entry for a list of desired authors and note those that are currently in application or are under reserve. Look at Student Listing for a list of authors in play. Your played by cannot be the past author themselves, and we require that they look their IC age. For a list of actors in use, see Played By List.
- Please do not make a wiki page for your character until your application has received moderator approval.
- LiveJournal
- Create a character journal. The LJ name you choose can be a clever literary reference, the actual character name, or something else that will help us identify you. Please put both your current incarnation's name and your past life's identity in your user information. Please remember to add a disclaimer in the userinfo. It should be added to the Biography section as follows: "This journal is a work of fiction as a part of the <lj comm="literepetition"> RPG."
- Write an introductory post. This should give us some good idea of who you are and your IC posting style; we are not requiring a word count, but it should be a reasonable sample of your writing. Journal entries can be third-person, present-tense threads of interaction with others, or first-person journal posts. We assume that if you can make one good post of either type, you'll figure out the rest in no time.
[edit] The Application
Fill this out to the best of your ability, and email it to the moderators at: mods@literepetition.net
Remember, this is a game about authors and literature. Grammar and spelling count. Please take the time to check your spelling and grammar in a word processor.
[edit] OOC Information
Player's Name/Preferred Nickname:
RL Age: Players under 18 are not allowed in this RP.
Time Zone:
Preferred Contact Method: This can be your lj address, your email, or an AIM where we can get in touch with you - anything so we can find you to communicate!
Prior RP Experience: This is for our curiosity's sake, mostly. This is optional, but if you are new, stating so up front may be a good idea.
Are you a returning Negability player? This game is a spinoff of the original game Negability. Returning characters may be subject to grandfathering into the existing game. You do not have to have played in Neg or its spinoffs to be welcome at Literary Repetition.
[edit] Vital Statistics
Name: What is your character's full name? Do they have any aliases or nicknames that are more commonly used?
Gender: Note here if your character is a different gender from your original author. This is absolutely allowed, but we'd like to know.
Previous Incarnation: Please state the author your character had been in a previous life. All non-literary figures or original characters are subject to extra scrutiny by the moderating team.
Journal Name: Students are required to keep a journal (with public entries but the capability to lock privately as well) at Meridian and its prep school alike. Put your character LJ address here.
Character Age and Birth Date: This RP centers around a town with a college and prep school. Your character should be in college only, although they are welcome to have the prep school in their backstory. Characters wildly outside the late teens to early twenties age range will be subject to mod approval.
Played By: Who's the person featured in your userpics as your character?
Year in School: Students whose age is vastly outside the norm for their grade within what's standard for American high schools and colleges - for example, a sixteen-year-old in his second year in college - are less likely to be okayed.
Major/Minor Course of Study: List your character's major here and any specialties. If you are taking a specific class or classes that might be shared with others this semester, you are welcome to list it here. Please keep in mind that if you name a specific class, other characters may join the same classes for RP opportunities. Optionally, list your character's minor here, and any other notes about course of study. Are you a part-time student? Abroad for a semester? Other weird thing? Put it here. Here's a list of of current majors in play, however new majors can be added.
Residence: Explain where your character lives, whether dormitories, off-campus, or something stranger still. If you're a non-traditional unofficial student who audits courses and sleeps in a campus common room under a stairwell, we'd really like to know it here. A list of dorms and some of the off-campus residences can be found here.
Occupation: Optional. List any applicable employment here - these are great RP opportunities. Information on employment in-game can be found on the jobs page, and a list of local businesses can be found here. Additional town hangout suggestions can be brought to the game admin.
Extracurriculars: Dance classes? Gaming society? Run the weekly movie night? Campus GLBT union? Foreign-exchange-student union? The choices are endless, but give us an idea of what you do outside of class for fun. Additional information can be found on the Student Organizations and Student Athletics pages. Additional organizations can be added if there is interest, just contact an admin.
Fraternity/Sorority/Student Affairs House affiliation: Optional. If you're going greek, have a secret society, or live in an unofficial vegetarian commune with some kind of formal organization, explain it here. Some of these groups are also listed under Student Organizations.
Significant Other/Important Relationships: Also optional, but some opt to come into the game with a connection or connections from the get-go.
Character Trivia: Give us some fun facts that don't fit inside little boxes. Are you a cat lover? Are you allergic to anything? Are your parents evil? Are you a whimsical drunk? Come up with some character/plot hooks here as well as granting a glimpse into the character's personal quirks and foibles.
[edit] Character Information
Appearance: Describe how your character looks. A general physical description of your character, including what he/she usually wears or other standout features, is what we require here. It does not have to be extremely detailed, but it shouldn't diverge too much from your played-by icons.
Personality: We are looking for an explanation and an analysis of your character’s psyche, their motivations and perspectives, and their behavior. This should at least grant passing mention to past-life elements; this is the best place to explain how your current incarnation relates to the author of the past.
Backstory: Tell us how your character got to where they are now. Where they grew up, anything that happened which altered their outlook in life, and how they came to the college are some examples of information to include here. Though we do not expect this portion to convey every bit of character history all the way back to conception and the womb, a background of substance is encouraged.
Skills, Talents, and Likes: Give the moderators some idea of what your character likes, enjoys, is good at doing. Keep it realistic, please! For detailed info and tips on application, see: Guidelines for Play.
Flaws, Drawbacks, and Dislikes: The flipside of the prior question. Give us some idea of where your character's limitations lie. And remember, this is not optional. Your character must have flaws that will come into play and we expect you to play them realistically and not ignore them. Again, see: Guidelines for Play.
Journal-Entry RP Sample: Don't include your journal entry in your app; instead, post your first journal entry to your character's LJ, and paste the link to that entry here.
[edit] After You Are Approved
- Post your complete application into an entry on your LJ that is locked to the game moderators.
- Post a second journal post that contains public info on your character's application for the players. We request that you do not post your entire app for the game at large.
- Introduce yourself in the community. Post an OOC introduction to the community, and link back to your character journal so we can get to know you and your character. (optional)
- Add the other members of the community to your friendslist. This is a requirement. It's easiest to keep up with the game if you keep everyone co-friended. Please don't forget to formally join the community itself! Joining the community is also a requirement. For a list of journals to add, see the approved PCs list.
- Create a character page on the Meridian College Wiki. Most of the information for the game is archived on the game wiki. If you need help setting up your character page, please ask for help! You will need a character picture and information as per the guidelines found here.
- Add your journal name to the approved PCs list.
- Add your PB to the played by list.
- Add your character name to the Student Listings.
- AND FINALLY : Have fun!
- In addition, we have a number of other informational pages. You will likely want to add yourself to these as well:
- Majors
- Housing: On-Campus Housing, Off-Campus Housing
- Activities: Athletics, Student Orgs
- Students by Year
- Students by Player
- Student Height Chart
- Student Hometowns
- If your character works a job off-campus, add them under the business listings on Places to Go, as well.
